David Shaw Welcomes 19 Recruits, Announces Changes to Stanford Staff

Stanford head football coach David Shaw talks about the Cardinal's 2011 recruiting class.

There were no real surprises on National Signing Day for Stanford head coach David Shaw, who received Letters of Intent from all 19 recruits who had verbally committed to the Cardinal. Elsewhere in the Pac-12, USC, Cal, Oregon, and Washington had impressive days.

In addition to singing the praises of a recruiting class that is ranked in the 20-25 range by the major sites, Shaw announced several changes to his staff. Derek Mason, who coached the Cardinal's defensive backs last season, will serve as associate head coach and co-defensive coordinator. Jason Tarver, a longtime 49ers assistant, will handle defensive coordinator duties with Mason in addition to coaching Stanford's inside linebackers. Finally, Pep Hamilton was promoted from wide receivers coach to offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach. (Here's an interview with Hamilton from last August.)
