Pac-12 Picks: Week 5

We all picked Stanford to cover... should you be worried?

We finally had a Lock of the Week winner, as Jack Blanchat nailed Oregon State's upset of UCLA. We were all fooled by Colorado, though, as the Buffaloes came out of nowhere to upset Washington State.

Here are this week's picks:

THURSDAY

Stanford (-7) at Washington

Jack: Stanford. I can't pick Washington after the beatdowns the Cardinal has delivered on the Huskies for the last several years. Score: Stanford 31, Washington 14.

Jacob: Stanford. I hate to curse the Cardinal with my seal of approval, but Washington can't run or stop the run. That's a bad formula against Stanford. Also, the bye week should take away any chance of a letdown. Score: Stanford 27, Washington 10.

Scott: Stanford. I think we're about to witness the Party in the Backfield of the Century. Score: Stanford 35, Washington 13.

SATURDAY

Arizona State at Cal (-1)

Jack: Arizona State. It's hard to tell what to make of either of these teams, but the Devils smoked Utah last week, so I'll go with them.

Jacob: Arizona State. The numbers say ASU has been a much better team than Cal, but I hesitate because the Sun Devils usually struggle on the road. However, I don't see how Cal will stop Arizona State, and the Bears aren't the type of team to win a shootout.

Scott: Cal. Don't fire Tedford. Don't ever fire Tedford.

UCLA (-19) at Colorado

Jack: UCLA. Colorado can't do it two weeks in a row, can they? I doubt it.

Jacob: UCLA. Ok, I officially don't understand Colorado. But I think UCLA will come out angry after its loss to Oregon State and put up a ton of points in Boulder.

Scott: UCLA. Undoubtedly motivated by me declaring last week's game against Washington State my lock of the year, the Buffs shocked the world with a come-from-behind win. Here's some more bulletin board material, coach Embree. You're welcome.

Oregon State at Arizona (-2.5)

Jack: Oregon State. I believed in the Beavers last week, and I'm gonna believe in them again this week.

Jacob: Arizona. OSU has looked great in its two games, both wins over ranked teams. Arizona just lost by 49. So naturally, it's time to Bear Down as both teams' luck reverses.

Scott: Oregon State. I hope there's enough room on the Beaver Bandwagon for a latecomer like me. Save me a spot, Jack? Good news for the Beavers: Tucson has In-n-Outs, too.

Oregon (-30.5) at Washington State

Jack: Oregon. Just go ahead and give me Oregon to cover in every game this season.

Jacob: Washington State. There is no doubt in my mind that Oregon could outscore Wazzu by more than 30 points... in the first half. But they have no reason to try to run up the score, and I think they let the Cougars score a couple times at the end.

Scott: Oregon. I'd watch to see how many times Chip Kelly elects to go for it on fourth down from deep in his own territory, but I'm not sure the Ducks will ever be in that situation.

Lock of the Week

Jack: Oregon State. Good run defenses show up week after week, and I think the Beavers will reward my faith for the second week in a row. The Beavers simply whip teams up front, and Arizona will still be licking its wounds after last week's thrashing.

Jacob: Washington State. Oregon was the most impressive team in the country last week, and Washington State was probably the least impressive. So to me, the Ducks seem like the clear pick, which means I have to go against them.

Scott: Stanford. (Duh.)
