Stanford basketball head coach Johnny Dawkins and his staff have landed their first commitment in the class of 2015 with small forward Marcus Sheffield giving his verbal pledge to the Cardinal on Tuesday via Twitter. The 6'5, 170-pound Sheffield is the first to commit to Stanford in the class and is rated as a four-star in the 247Sports Composite.
Sheffield is ranked as the 17th best small forward in the country and the seventh best prospect at any position from the state of Georgia. Sheffield held offers from Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, Maryland, Tennessee, VCU, Xavier, and was receiving interest from George Mason, Miami, and Oregon State.
The 247Sports Crystal Ball didn't have any predictions in favor of Stanford, as it was predicted Sheffield would end up at Maryland or Clemson, although Maryland had dropped out of contention earlier in Sheffield's recruitment. This commitment could mean great things for the Cardinal basketball program as they add a talented scorer.
