The 2016 football schedule for the Stanford Cardinal was released today and it certainly is an interesting one. The Cardinal will start the season on a Friday, September second on the Farm against Kansas State immediately followed by their off week the second week of the season which could prove costly down the stretch. Stanford will return to action on Saturday September 17th hosting USC followed by a trip to Los Angeles the following week to take on UCLA. Six days later for a Friday night game the Cardinal will play at Washington to close out the month of September.
On October 8th Stanford will host Washington State then go back on the road the following week to South Bend to take on rival Notre Dame on the 15th. Colorado will come to the Farm on the 22nd and The Cardinal will spend Halloween weekend in the desert against Arizona on the 29th. Stanford hosts Oregon State on November 5th before heading to Oregon to take on the Ducks November 12. Mark your calendars because November 19th will be Big Game in Berkeley. Stanford will then close out the regular season on the Farm against Rice.
Stanford's schedule has a few quirks for 2016. As mentioned before their bye week comes in the second week of the season leaving the Cardinal to play 11 straight weeks without a break (12 if they return to the Pac-12 Conference Championship game on December second). Stanford also only has 4 home conference games (USC, Washington State, Colorado, Oregon State) and two non-conference home games bookending the season (Kansas State to start, Rice to close). Hosting two quality teams (Kansas State and USC) followed by two road games in six days (UCLA and Washington) could prove to be rather difficult month for the Cardinal to open the season. Back to back road games at Oregon and at Cal could prove to be a difficult November as well.
