Stanford Outlasts The Fighting Irish, 17-10

NCAA Football: Stanford at Notre Dame Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

The Stanford Cardinal went into the annual meet up with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish down superstar Christian McCaffrey and was a team that was trending downward.

All it took was a 2nd half defensive effort for the ages, and the legs of Bryce Love to lead the Cardinal to a hard fought victory in South Bend on Saturday night.

RB Bryce Love was phenomenal in South Bend with 23 carries for 129 yards on the ground. When the Cardinal needed a big play, Love was there to help move the chains.

DL Solomon Thomas was a one man wrecking crew on the defensive line for the Cardinal as he registered 10 tackles, and provided constant pressure to the Notre Dame QBs all game.

The Cardinal welcomed several players back that had missed time due to injury, including “Showtime” Quenton Meeks, who came up huge tonight with an interception returned for a TD, and several pass break-ups.

After the game, Head Coach David Shaw said, “this was an ugly game, but a win is a win, and we’ll take it.”

Stanford gets a much-needed win, and gets their record up to 4-2, and the Irish continue their downward spiral to 2-5.
