Stanford returns to the College Football Playoff rankings

The 7-3 Cardinal are 24th

NCAA Football: Stanford at Oregon Scott Olmos-USA TODAY Sports

The Stanford Cardinal have returned to the College Football Playoff rankings following their convincing defeat of the Oregon Ducks. After a woeful 4 game stretch which saw blowouts from the Washington Huskies and the Washington Cougars, narrowly defeating a struggling Notre Dame team and a tough to swallow 10-5 loss against Colorado, a return to the rankings did not seem feasible. Now the Cardinal has begun to turn things around with 3 straight double digit victories over Arizona, Oregon State and Oregon.

Elsewhere around the Pac-12 half of the entire conference is ranked. Washington only dropped from 4th to 6th after their loss to USC. The Colorado Buffaloes are 8-2 and just inside the top 10 after moving up two spots from number 12. The Utah Utes moved up 3 spots to number 12. The biggest mover though was the USC Trojans who jumped 7 spots all the way up to 13th following their win over the Huskies in Seattle. The Committee is high on the Trojans right now. It is also impressive that three of the 6 teams in the Pac-12 South division find themselves in the top 13.

The Pac-12 and SEC have six ranked teams this week, the Big Ten only has 5 but four of those five are, impressively, in the top 10. The Big 12 and ACC only have 3 teams in the rankings this week. The ACC however does currently have 2 teams (Clemson, Louisville) in the top 5. You can see the full rankings below:
