Stanford holds steady at 24 in the College Football Playoff rankings

The 8-3 Cardinal did not move at all after beating Cal

The Stanford Cardinal may have defeated the Cal Bears on Saturday but that was not enough to convince the College Football Playoff Committee to move them up the rankings. Stanford maintained their spot at #24 right behind the 3-loss Washington State Cougars at 23 and the 3-loss Utah Utes at number 22. Even though the Cougars just lost they still have the same record as Stanford and won the head to head matchup which made it understandably difficult to move the Cardinal up in the rankings.

Elsewhere around the Pac-12 Washington is number 5 and seems to have a good shot at the playoffs should they defeat Washington State and then either Colorado or USC. Speaking of the Colorado Buffaloes they moved up one spot to number nine after defeating the Cougars. The Buffs just need to beat Utah on Saturday and they are in the Pac-12 Championship game.

The USC Trojans only moved up 1 spot after defeating their crosstown rivals the UCLA Bruins. The Trojans sit at #12 and will likely need some help at this point if they hope to crack the top 10. Behind the Trojans are the other 3 Pac-12 teams in the rankings this week with Utah at 22, Washington State at 23 and Stanford at 24. Rounding out the rankings are the Navy Midshipmen coming in at number 25 with an 8-2 record.
