Stanford football 2016: Looking Forward to Rice

While Rice is not traditional Thanksgiving fare the Cardinal still plays the Owls on Saturday. Here’s what to expect

Stanford is going to crush this team. Rice is a member of Conference USA , not exactly loaded with talented teams. They play the likes of UTEP, North Texas and San Antonio State. The out of conference games against quality teams were Army and Baylor, both big losses.

Moreover, on the road this team has really struggled offensively. They have only mustered 993 passing yards and 671 rushing yards with 13 touchdowns through five road games. The defense on the season against the run has struggled as well. Through eight losses they gave up an average of 187.7 yards and two touchdowns. In their three wins they still gave up 127.6 yards and just over a touchdown.

This is a gimme game for the Cardinal as Christian McCaffrey has rumbled since his full game back, playing the Arizona Wildcats. Over the last four games he has rushed for 787 yards and nine touchdowns. Through the first seven games of the season, he had 612 yards and three touchdowns.

Keller Chryst has been playing better as well, now he plays a Rice secondary that has only forced five interceptions and a defensive line that has only tallied 18 sacks on the season. They will not get to him and they will not be getting more drives off of turnovers. Stanford’s defense, on the other hand, has 32 sacks and 12 interceptions on the year.

Stanford has averaged 39.3 points a game over their last four games and now they face a team that gives up 37 points a game against mostly non-power 5 teams, and they get them at home. The Cardinal will clean up in the last game of the season.

Despite some rocky weeks for the Cardinal, they have ended very strong and are one easy win away from a solid bowl appearance.
