A key stat going into this game Christian McCaffrey is ranked 6th in the country for all purpose yardage averaging 182.9 per game. Christian McCaffrey is coming off his best performance of the season against the Arizona Wildcats. Coach Shaw needs to get McCaffrey going early and often in this game. No if, and, or buts it time for Christian McCaffrey to take over this season despite what the circumstances are. Stanford needs a good team win in order to build momentum for the rest the season and it starts now with McCaffrey. I believe McCaffrey’s impact will ultimately take pressure off of Keller Chryst and other teammates to make plays.
Defensive Mismatch
The enforcer Solomon Thomas is tied for 3rd in the PAC-12 with 7 sacks. If you watch the television screen when Stanford’s defense is on the field Solomon jumps right off. This season Solomon has 41 tackles and 11 in the back field and is clearly the Cardinal’s best defensive player. Going into this game Solomon Thomas will be defensive nightmare for Oregon State who has given up 21 sacks on the season.
David Shaw’s Impact
David Shaw has never lost to Oregon State as head coach of Stanford dating back to 2011 and the Beavers have not defeated the Cardinal since 2009. That is 5 straight victories over Oregon State for Shaw as head coach so I expect Shaw to win his 6th straight vs Oregon State because Stanford has the better football team. This game for Stanford could make or break the rest of the season with a loss or victory.
