The Cardinal could not have ended their regular season any better. They won the meet by a gaping 16.900 points, and swept the event titles 6-0, beating No. 12 Cal for the 4th time this season.
Individually, Akash Modi won four event titles: floor, pommel horse, parallel bars, and the all-around crown. Taylor Seaton won two of the remaining three with vault and high bar, leaving rings to Josiah Eng.
The only downside of this phenomenal performance by the Cardinal was that this meet also marked their annual senior send off. This meet marked the final home stand for Jordan DeClerk, Andrew Misiolek, Akash Modi, Taylor Seaton, and Drew Willoughby, a senior class that has already brought the University two silvers and a bronze at the NCAA Championships.
The meet began with the Cardinal scoring a season-best 73.600 on floor behind Modi’s 15.250 season high. Modi followed it up by going 14.550 on pommel horse to lead the team, followed by Willoughby in second with a 14.150 and Misiolek grabbing third (13.750).
Josiah Enj took his 5th rings title of the season, winning with a 14.200 en route to a team total of 69.150.
Seaton won the vault, with Gareth Weiss contributing a season-high 14.350 followed by Bailey Perez’s career-best 14.500.
The Cardinal then went on to set a season-high 71.500 on parallel bars, led by Modi’s 15.400 and DeClerk’s 14.650.
Seaton finished on high bar with a 14.300 to take the event and close the show.
Modi’s all-around title came with a score of 87.650, his 3rd best of the year.
The Cardinal will seek its 5th consecutive conference championship next week as it travels to Berkley.
