Tell me about yourself.
My name is Tanner McKee. I live in Southern California. I go to Corona Centennial High School. I’m 6’6’’ 200 pounds. I’m committed to Stanford.
What brought you into the sport of football?
I’ve always been a competitor. I’ve always loved playing sports. I started playing football when I was seven years old. I played basketball, baseball, football, and volleyball. I always loved playing sports and football was one of those sports I loved playing.
How did your season go?
It was great. We went to playoffs - lost in the semifinals. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to play in that game because I got a concussion the game before.
How are you preparing to play at Stanford and keeping in shape during your two years in Brazil?
So there are things I’m trying to work on. I’m trying to do different workouts that [Strength and Conditioning] Coach Turley will think that will prepare us when we get up there. A lot of bandwork, a lot of body work. So as far as Brazil, I have an hour in the morning to work out. I’ll bring medicine balls. They have a gym down there. I’ll bring a lot of bands to stay in the best shape that I can. So I should be ready to go.
You put a lot of big numbers in High School, how do feel about transitioning to a run-first offense?
I’m really excited to be in the pro-style. I feel like if I’m lucky enough to have the opportunity to go to the NFL, it will prepare me very well. But yeah, it will definitely be different. I’m really excited and looking forward to the challenge.
What schools or players are you looking forward to face?
I don’t know if I have any schools or players in particular but I’m ready to compete on that kind of stage. Stanford is a great program that wins a lot of football games - really successful so I hope I can keep that going.
How do you feel about living in Brazil for two years?
I’m really excited. I’ve always wanted to and dreamed of serving in a missionary program since I was a little kid. I’ve done a little research about where I’m going to be staying in Brazil. I’m really looking forward to it. Everyone says that the people are really nice. The food is good. I’ll be living in different areas in the city. I might be in an apartment or I might be in a shack kind of thing. So kinda depends on where I’ll be. But overall, I’m really looking forward to it. I’m in the process of trying to learn Portuguese.
What do you plan on majoring in?
I’m not sure yet. I might do business/finance. I might go law or the medical field. I’m not sure. Those are the three I’m juggling right now.
Is there a player who you mold your style of play after?
Not really. I’ve always been a fan of Andrew Luck even before I was committed to Stanford. I’ve always been a fan of him. And so yeah, I like the way he carries himself - an obviously very smart guy.
