Stanford’s next great running back may be from right in their backyard.
Austin Jones, a four-star running back from Oakland’s Bishop O’Dowd high school, announced his commitment to Stanford today on his Instagram.

Jones is ranked as the No. 6 back nationally in the 2019 class and is ranked as the top back in the West region by 247 Sports.
Jones talked about his commitment with 247 Sports:
“It would be like they used Christian McCaffrey, at running back, lining me up at receiver, just getting the ball to me a bunch of different ways,” said Jones.
For Jones, it’s a dream come true to play at Stanford, a perennial contender for the Pac-12 title (three conference titles in the last six years and four division titles).
“Basically I choose Stanford because I thought it was the best fit for me,” said Jones. “Academically, I’ll be set for life. Every time I went there someone made me feel at home. Coach G (Ron Gould), Coach (David) Shaw made me feel like they believed in me.”
Jones picked Stanford over Oregon, UCLA, Utah, and Cal.
Jones is Stanford’s fourth commitment in the 2019 class, and the fourth four-star recruit in the class.
