Marcus Sheffield has committed to Elon as a graduate transfer. He made a post via Instagram announcing his decision.
Sheffield played three seasons for Stanford, logging minutes in 86 games and notching 9 starts. He averaged 6.1 points per game over his Cardinal career, including shooting 35% from deep. After starting this season out of the rotation, his shooting and dependability helped him find a way into a key role by year’s end. Sheffield has one remaining year of eligibility, as he missed the entirety of the 2017-18 season with a foot injury.
The Phoenix of Elon play in the Colonial Athletic Association. Though the CAA is a mid-major conference, they have sent two teams to the Final Four over the last 15 years (George Mason, VCU). Elon won just 11 games a year ago, and Sheffield figures to be a major piece of their rotation next season.
This move was not unexpected, as Stanford signed two recruits despite only having one senior (Josh Sharma). Should KZ Okpala keep his name in the draft, they will still have one available scholarship.
