Stanford women to play at UNLV on Saturday

Tara Watch continues

NCAA Womens Basketball: Pac-12 Conference Tournament Stanford vs Oregon Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

The Stanford Cardinal are back in action this weekend, traveling to Las Vegas to resume their 2020-21 season where their 2019-20 season ended. The Cardinal are headed to play UNLV after addressing the issues from the Santa Clara County’s ban on contact sports through at the earliest December 21.

Stanford had a four-game stretch of home games essentially altered and canceled due to the order and now they head back to Vegas after losing their Pac-12 Tournament Title game to Oregon this past March.

The Stanford men’s team traveled to Asheville, North Carolina for the Maui Invitational this past week as well. The Maui Invitational was relocated to North Carolina due to the pandemic as well. The Cardinal lost to Indiana and will instead stay in North Carolina and apparently try to schedule some regional games before returning to California.

Stanford athletic director Bernard Muir said that school officials will closely monitor the local as well as national landscape and continue to collaborate with school and county officials as well as health experts to “make informed decisions that we believe are in the best interest of our student-athletes.”

Muir also said in a statement that the school will honor any student-athlete’s scholarship who wishes to opt-out at this point of their season or even later.

We’ll continue to monitor any changes to the upcoming schedules for any of the programs, but we’re definitely on Tara Watch as she closes in on the record.
