The nation’s top receivers were honored this week with their selections to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List — and you betcha — Stanford Cardinal WR Michael Wilson was firmly planted on such a list.
Honoring the nation’s top receivers, Wilson stands on the shortlist with such names as Jaylen Waddle, Ja’Marr Chase, Rashod Bateman and many others considered to be first-round draft picks, unguardable talents, among other superlatives.
Wilson hauled in 56 catches for 672 yards and five scores a year ago, including 273 yards over the final three games alone. He has safe, sure hands and utilizes his large frame to his advantage with multiple big-time catch moments and contested catches over smaller defensive backs.
The list is extensive but it certainly got the job done right. The Biletnikoff Award recognizes the top FBS receiver, regardless of any position, the website states. So, unsurprising that Iowa State TE Charlie Kolar and Penn State TE Pat Freiermuth as well as Washington State RB Max Borghi are on there, among other non-WRs.
The award is voted on by the National Selection Committee, a group of prominent college football journalists, commentators, former receivers and is award by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation.
The group will be narrowed down later this season and receivers who excel during the regular season may also be added along the way.
On a personal note — yours truly is a voter for the Biletnikoff Award, an honor I take very seriously, and I cannot wait to get after it this season, watching Wilson and all his cohorts this year.
