The way I see it now the Big 12 just became the 5th conference in the race for a playoff spot

Assuming (which is a big assumption) Clemson OSU/Iowa and Bama win out those three conference winners will get a playoff spot.

If Stanford and ND go into the last regular season game with just the one loss the winner if that game will likely get the 4th spot. This assumes if Standford wins they also win the PAC 12 CCG the following week. If Stanford wins and they play a one loss Utah in the PAC 12 CCG I could see the winner of the Pac 12 getting the 4th slot.

In the Big 12 the two undefeated teams Baylor and OSU have played OOC schedules which consists of SMU. Rice and Lamar an FCS team. (Combined Rice and Lamar hav 5 total wins. Two of those five are against North Texas) OSU has played Central Michigan, UTSA and Central Arkansas an FCS team. (Central Michigan and UTSA have combined for all of 6 wins)

In comparison Stanford or Utah will play in a CCG. OOC Stanford will have played Northwestern (week one and is ranked) ND and UCF. For Stanford that will be a regular season of 11 games with P5 teams and no FCS teams. Utah’s OOC schedule includes Michigan (Week one) along with Utah State and Fresno State. That would be a regular season of 10 games with P5 teams and not a single FCS.

And yes I could see a one loss ND team getting in over an undefeated Baylor or OSU given the schedules each has played. There are no FCS teams on the ND schedule. Like Baylor and OSU they do not play in a CCG, and they would have only played 9 games with P5 teams, but no FSC teams, and the non P5 teams include Navy and Temple. As for a one loss Big 12 champion Oklahoma, they lost to who?

The committee would be looking at either rewarding teams for making OOC schedules like Baylor and OSU have or rewarding teams like Stanford, Utah and ND for scheduling how they do. I think that is a no brainer

Unless you are the SEC

Ridiculous that they get away with 8 conf games and an FCS patsy in November and still ranked like TAM or Miss St.

I for one would love for the committee to come out and say they will give preference to teams playing at least 11 games with P5 teams.

That could be 10 in the regular season and one in the CCGs. It could also be a way for two very good teams from the same division to make the playoffs…

I would like to see the committee also require P5 teams play a P5 opponent week one, the last weekend and all regular season gamee be played with in the same number of weeks.

The committee can not mandate the number of conference games for any conference, but they could tell the teams competing for playoff spots you will need to play 11 games with P5 teams. ND need to start playing 10 P5 teams a year if they want to at least distinguish themselves from teams like Baylor, as ND does not play in a CCG as thing stand now.

You would think at some point the Committee considers W-L record against teams above 0.500 against P5 teams themselves.
