Update: Stanford has reportedly fired coach Johnny Dawkins after 8 seasons, per reports.

The Stanford men's basketball team has opted not to participate in a post season tournament this year according to Tom Fitzgerald of the San Francisco Chronicle. Stanford unsurprisingly was not invited to the 2016 NCAA Tournament, and missed out on a return invitation to the NIT. The University was unsure if they received an invite to the CBI, Vegas 16 or any other postseason tournament, but the Cardinal will decline any invitations for postseason competition that may head their way.

It has been a frustrating and at times insufferable season for Stanford basketball fans, a season that is now officially over. While most of the Pac-12 Conference will be headed to postseason play including seven teams headed to March Madness, but Stanford will be among the few teams from the talented Pac-12 conference not competing in the postseason.

I'd be optimistic

If the season had ended on a more positive note. Unfortunately, the team played its worst at the end and I am left without optimism about next season under current leadership.

I shudder to think at how more hollow Maples will get if Dawkins is back next year.

I'm optimistic.

Stanford played short handed all year, missing two key starters. Stanford has many returning players next year which is something to look forward to.
No reason to play in a meaningless tournament while short handed.
