Stanford forward Rosco Allen will not return to the Farm next season and will try his hand in the NBA Draft, according to sources close to ESPN's Jeff Goodman.

Even though Allen declared for the draft in April, the move comes as a bit of a surprise for many around the program. Allen hadn't hired an agent, and most expected him to return for another year to boost his draft stock.

Per the new NCAA rule, players can declare for the draft, test the waters, and return if they don't like their prospects after the draft combine, which most thought Allen would do. Another year to hone his game under new coach Jerod Haase would certainly have helped that, one would have thought.

Allen only spent one year in the limelight, stuck behind Chasson Randle and Co. and suffering a slew of injuries, but led the Cardinal in scoring last season. He was a huge threat from behind the arc, ending the season tenth in the Pac-12 in threes.

At the next level, the All-Pac-12 first-teamer will have to rely heavily on his three-point shot to stand out. His gangly build and average speed make him a fringy pro prospect, probably a mid-to-late second rounder at best.

Allen's departure leaves Haase a roster devoid of leadership and a whole lot of experience. Players like Reid Travis, Marcus Allen, and Michael Humphrey are going to have to stay on the court and make big strides to get the Cardinal back on the national radar.
