West a stiff in the pocket, no completions beyond 5 yds. Shaky O line, 5 sacks already. Everyone raves about Parkinson but he hasn’t done anything. Offensive play calling is really dull. Scarlett is tripping over his own feet. Hard to watch.
And 90% of it on the pass is exactly why I am not sold on carberry. Ofc ucla is crashing down on the run and west can’t hit a truck down the field. At this point put jack Richardson in. He has had a spring camp 2 yrs back all to himself
How do we let a slot receiver that wide open especially if he already had 10 catches for 130?? And then wedington fumbles. Just great guys. Chalk up an L and move on to hoping Davis is healed back in time
In a season where the card gave up 800+ yards early season to true freshmen who were playing on Fridays, our 3rd yr (redshirt sophomore) QB who has been in the system long enough can’t execute a swing pass to a wide open RB. I mean is it recruiting or is it QB "coaching"??
And that shaw decided to let him stay in the game putting everyone else in harm’s way without a chance to win. I mean you handed a walk-on QB a scholly to not ride the bench (or you would have to admit you got it wrong not recruiting enough QBs which you won’t as you showed the past week).
Can’t believe I am quoting herm edwards but "you play to win the game" not get participation trophies with all team spirit, grit, etc.
Can someone confirm? He seemed game but overmatched.
No one’s fault if we don’t have our most talented guys, but I’m surprised the coaching staff couldn’t come up with a plan that would try to compensate for their limitations. Maybe that’s unrealistic, but I’d love to know that they tried to do that…
As layman rightly asks: is it recruiting or player development? I tend to think it is the latter. Also, I believe our entire offensive system hamstrings talent. The overly complex playbook appears to paralyze a player’s natural gifts.
We can’t have young offensive players who thrive in our system unless they are literally supermen like McCaffrey because we have the most complicated system in college football yet … we aren’t prolific offensively generally (Rose v. Iowa notwithstanding).
The whole thing needs an overhaul from top to bottom really.

I’m just following the ESPN play by play
Anyone know why Costello and Mills are both out?
By LerghMcblergh on 10.17.19 6:23pm
Costello has a thumb injury.
Mills might have a knee thing.
At this rate, Tavita will have to suit up.

Young players, injuries
Stanford looks lost on offense…

Could be a long night for West.
I feel bad for the guy, he does not seem up to the challenge. I hope the best for him but maybe start running on 1st down?

The team
Doesn’t seem prepared to step up. It’s not on west tonight.

Bruin punt bounced straight back off of a Scandinavian tree by the name of Spencer Jorgensen.

Pathetic

Just got up
Seems expected with a green 3rd string QB starting but the defense has given up 21 in the half. All good things have to end somewhere
By layman on 10.17.19 7:52pm
Not even triple digits offense

Ugg it's infectious when momentum is against

Well, this is a thing that is happening.

No injuries on the O-line tonight.

Startlingly inept QB play

I think West was a walk-on -- not a recruit

West was a 4-star recruit
Highly-touted out of high school. Richardson is the walk-on subsequently put on scholarship.
By Jeff Tarnungus on 10.17.19 11:13pm
Well, that's bad...
By g8tgod on 10.17.19 11:14pm
You bet

Agree on the offensive system
It’s damning that our guys often play worse the 2nd year in the system, while other teams roll out a true freshman who is able to succeed. SMH…
By g8tgod on 10.17.19 11:19pm
Yes
There have been multiple instances of players regressing rather than progressing during their years in the system. Somehow baffling.
By Jeff Tarnungus on 10.17.19 11:24pm
Yep. This is a long-running issue
We can’t have young offensive players who thrive in our system unless they are literally supermen like McCaffrey because we have the most complicated system in college football yet … we aren’t prolific offensively generally (Rose v. Iowa notwithstanding).
