Stanford Cruises Past Arkansas-Pine Bluff

In the press conference following Stanford's 92-49 win against Arkansas Pine-Bluff, Cardinal head coach Johnny Dawkins referred to freshman Dwight Powell as a work in progress. It will sure be fun to see the finished product.

Powell scored 12 points on 4-for-5 shooting in only 20 minutes, while Jeremy Green led Stanford with 21 points for the second consecutive game. Josh Owens added 14 for the Cardinal, which overcame a sluggish first half to pull away from the Golden Lions. Arkansas Pine-Bluff must replace four starters from last year's squad that won the NCAA tournament play-in game and then lost to eventual national champion Duke.

Stanford made modest strides at the free throw line. The Cardinal entered the game shooting an abysmal 51 percent, but shot 26-for-39 (67 percent) Sunday.

With the win, Stanford improved to 1-0 this season against teams from the SWAC, which is more than Oregon State can say. The Beavers lost to Texas Southern, 66-60. Stanford returns to the court Thursday in Anaheim against Murray State in the 76 Classic.
