VanDerveer Wins 800th

It took three tries, but Stanford women's basketball head coach Tara VanDerveer won her 800th game last night, 100-45 against USF at War Memorial Gym. The milestone win came against two of VanDerveer's former disciples, Jennifer Azzi and Katy Steding, who helped lead Stanford to its first NCAA title in 1990. Azzi is in her first year as head coach of the Dons and Steding is one of her assistants.

"I didn't plan it this way," VanDerveer said. "I didn't want it this way, but it is really special to be here with Jennifer and Katy."

VanDerveer joined Pat Summitt, C. Vivian Stringer, Sylvia Hatchell, Jody Condradt, and Barbara Stevens as the only women's basketball coaches in the 800 Club. I'm looking forward to C&R's full report from the Hilltop. Check back later today for a list of the top 10 wins in VanDerveer's career.
