Well this is awkward. Jack and Scott both had pretty decent weeks, going 4-2 and 3-3, respectively, while easily nailing their locks. I, on the other hand, put up the ever-embarrassing oh-fer. I lost in every possible way, from being dead wrong (Utah) to teams collapsing in the second half (Arizona State, Cal) to teams taking it too easy at the end (UCLA, Arizona). Of course, I would have had at least one win (and my lock) if Stanford had just kicked the extra point (or made the two-point conversion).
Oh well, no excuses, play like a champion. I haven't been playing like a champion, but Jack and Scott have been solid of late. We'll all try to pick things up on Division Championship Saturday.
Here are this week's picks:
Washington (-20.5) at Colorado
Jack: Washington. Obviously.
Jacob: Washington. The Huskies are finally enjoying the easy part of their schedule.
Scott: Washington. Can the Buffs cover for a second consecutive week? No chance.
Washington State at Arizona State (-22.5)
Jack: Arizona State. The way things are going, I expect Washington State to fall apart down the stretch.
Jacob: Washington State. The Cougars showed some fight last week and ASU is in a tailspin, so I'll take the points.
Scott: Washington State. After a hot start, the Sun Devils need another to get bowl eligible. They'll get it, but it won't be a rout.
USC (-4) at UCLA
Jack: USC. I like UCLA, but I don't know that I can pick them over the Trojans this week.
Jacob: UCLA. The Trojans have more talent, but I think the Bruins are more motivated in a game that could come down to a field goal.
Scott: UCLA. Bruins haven't forgotten 50-0 beatdown and will make Matt Barkley wish, even more than he already does, that win was the last game of his collegiate career.
Stanford at Oregon (-20.5)
Jack: Stanford. Alabama was so unbeatable last week. Now, it's Oregon that's unbeatable. This is the week that giants fall. Score: Stanford 38, Oregon 35.
Jacob: Stanford. Do I think Stanford is as good as Oregon? Not even close. Do I honestly expect the Cardinal to pull the massive upset? No. But if I'm going to go down, I'll go down supporting my boys. Score: Stanford 35, Oregon 34.
Scott: Stanford. I said 42-24 Ducks earlier this week, but I'll revise that to 42-31. The record shows that I'm terrible at predicting games. Score: Oregon 42, Stanford 31.
Arizona at Utah (Even)
Jack: Arizona. In a pick 'em, I'll take the better team.
Jacob: Utah. Arizona may be a better team, but Utah needs this more, and playing at Rice-Eccles makes all the difference.
Scott: Arizona. It's a little easier to pick the Wildcats when they're not giving 28.5 points.
Cal at Oregon State (-14.5)
Jack: Oregon State. Once again, no reason to pick Cal.
Jacob: Cal. Beavers coming off tough loss, Cal playing its last game. Bears will keep it close.
Scott: Oregon State. Beavers gather some momentum heading into the Civil War.
Lock of the Week
Jack: Washington. It doesn't really count to pick a lock over Colorado, does it?
Jacob: Washington. Colorado has given up at least 42 points in each of its past six games. I don't think the Buffs will put up more than 20.
Scott: Arizona. Utah has been good at home, while Arizona has struggled on the road, albeit against some strong competition. Utes looked pretty terrible against Washington, though. A lot of tough lines this week, so I'll go with the pick 'em.
