Stanford Women's Gymnastics Pulls Off Upset Against #15 Georgia
Continuing a strong start to their season, #22 Stanford Women's Gymnastics pulled off an upset against #15 Georgia on Monday.
The Cardinal's margin of victory was just 0.125, 195.875-195.750. Stanford remained behind the Bulldogs in the first half of the meet, but was able to claw back towards a tie with strong second-half routines and Georgia errors. In particular, Bulldog adversity on beam opened the door for a Cardinal comeback.
When senior Melissa Chuang stepped to the beam, Stanford and Georgia sat tied at 195.700. Chaung's 9.900 score gave the Cardinal a lead that the Bulldogs were unable to overcome. In addition to Chaung's effort, her teammates delivered with five floor scores of 9.700 or higher and team-wide scores above 9.725 on beam.
Stanford will face #11 Cal and San Jose State at home on Sunday.
