Stanford WBB v Northern Colorado. What I saw, from where I sat.

The Northern Colorado Bears hail from the Big Sky Conference and were a first time opponent for Stanford. It was another ninety point game and everybody got minutes. Here are some random thought and observations:

Mikaela and Maya were both still in walking boots. Hannah was also out. Reportedly a broken nose.

Let's start with the intro video. The music has always been really good in past years. I really hope they are just trying different songs because what they rolled out with was not conducive to creating an upbeat vibe from the audience. It was a heavy rap song. I think that there are better options.

Every available player received double digit minutes in the game and scored except Anna. What she did on defense, however, was outstanding. Steals, deflecting passes and being a menace in forcing turnovers. Anna also showed her floor presence and leadership on multiple occasions.

We saw Stanford score in different ways. In transition, low block and driving the basket. All this on a night when the three point shot wasn't needed.

In case you are wondering, the hardcourt is still hard. Both Di and Estella took hard falls. Estella looked like a child's rag doll lying there on the floor. I wasn't sure she was going to get up. She did. She's tough.

There were a number of entry passes to Nadia that failed to connect that really showed her limited mobility with the brace she is wearing. I wonder if having her sit out the rest of the year and return as a red shirt senior wouldn't be a better option. She is only nine months removed from surgery and rehabbing while playing is a tough ask.

The competition ramps up with Gonzaga as our next opponent.
