Tonight may be the last time Stanford faces a ranked team until the final game of the season (against Notre Dame), and this may be the last chance until then that Stanford has a chance to impress while the entire nation is watching. With three of UCLA's top defensive players out for this game, UCLA has looked particularly vulnerable on the defensive side of the ball, but will that be enough for Stanford to put in a big showing? Can Stanford make a big show on the national stage by using its power run game to exploit the battered UCLA defense? Host Matt Vassar talks a bit about this, as well as the recent comments by UCLA head coach Jim Mora on how back-to-back Thursday night games undermine the notion of the student-athlete. Even despite the sham of the "student"-athlete set up by the NCAA, David Shaw has created a culture at Stanford that values both the student and the athlete.

Only insomniac eyes in the East will be on this game
So sick of the hassle of attending these night games. The joy of mid-day sunny October college football in this area is just not happening this year. The burden of this midnight scheduling should be divided more evenly among the conference teams. I respectfully disagree that, especially competing in part against Dodgers/Mets, the country will be watching this game. Having finished my bitching, very proud of the post Northwestern team. Let’s keep it going.

The entire p-12 basically gets screwed on start times.
Unless you’re on the p12N, you get relegated to late night games. Look at the games this week. Only two games have decent start times. USC at ND has a ok time only because it’s at ND. The other is OSU at WSU. And that has a good start time only because it’s on the p12N and doesn’t have a national appeal. All the other games start way late because the other networks (espn and fs1) want to try and keep an audience all night. Late night games + colder temperatures = a poor stadium experience.

Colder Temperatures
I agree that the late night games are burdensome to some, especially an older fanbase such as Stanford’s, and it is especially odd that every home game thus far will have been at 7:30PM (UW game next week is at 7:30 as well). However, I think a lot of students prefer the night games now as opposed to day games, and given the heat, I can bet that if you didn’t have people complaining about night games you’d have people complaining about how it’s too hot to be watching football live during the day. Or worse, people just don’t show up because it’s too hot.
The night games are basically reconditioning in progress. LSU has night games for a majority of their home games, but they get the benefit of playing the Central time zone. The Arizona schools don’t even kick off before 5PM local because of the heat in September and October.
Of the three remaining home games after the Huskies, Oregon will most likely be a night game as well unless they go on a complete death spiral and get relegated to the P12 Network. The Notre Dame game all depends on how ESPN wants to approach marquee games (Ohio State/Michigan is the same day) or if they want to skip the Notre Dame game so Fox can get it. Since the Big 12’s games that day are pretty abysmal save for OkState vs. OU, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Fox give us a late afternoon start.
Of all the games remaining, Big Game is most likely to be set at 5PM. If both teams are doing great, and it shapes up to be what most of us expect it to be, it’ll be a Prime Time game. If we fall against Oregon or the Bears stink it up against the Beavers (unlikely), it’s a 7:30 game. If one or both teams really faceplants before then, it’ll be a 12:30 or 1PM game. Since the new stadium opened, I think we’ve only had one Big Game start at Stanford before 4PM (2013 when the Bears went 1-11).

I can see why you guys like the colder temps
But for us in Utah it can suck towards the end of the season. I’ve sat through some miserable games.

Just wait until CCG
December is at the front end of the rainy season in the Bay Area, and with "The biggest since ’97" El Niño this year, Levi’s is sure to be one cold, muddy mess.

Gah. Heading up to the game in 3 hours. Doubt I'll be able to stay the whole time.
3rd straight night home game. Kids are tired by half and I gotta pack them up. Doesn’t help that tomorrow is a school/work day. 6 pm start would have been a lot better for viewership and my schedule.
Oh well.

I think ESPN wanted the game at 10:30 eastern
So they could be sure the Auburn/Kentucky game was over. The west coast always gets hosed by the TV schedule. Wish I could be there. I will be there for the Washington game, though!

Remound Wright
A quick pronunciation correction: I believe the correct way to pronounce his name is "re-MOND" wright, not "RAY-mond"

Give me the night games all day long (pun intended)
The East Coasters can read about it in the paper. Maybe their imagination will inflate the truth even. Meh, I know, likely not, but whatever. It is your JOB to watch the games if you have input on the rankings, so just do it and shut up!
