In news that surprised no one Oklahoma Sooners QB Baker Mayfield won the 2017 Heisman Trophy tonight over Stanford Cardinal running back Bryce Love and Louisville Cardinals QB Lamar Jackson. Love finished second in the voting and Jackson came in third.
Stanford Football: Bryce Love Season Highlight
Nothing can take away from the incredible 2017 season for Bryce Love who rushed for 1,973 yards and 17 touchdowns. Love broke the single game Stanford rushing record, the fastest Stanford running back to reach 1,000 yards, and set the single-season FBS record for most runs of 50+ yards and carried his team so many wins this season.

Great work young man!! You are heisman-worthy in our eyes
Also time to look back and reflect on the "fearless" predictions: https://www.ruleoftree.com/2017/8/12/16111288/bryce-love-heisman-trophy-contender-2017#comments
I want to jump on the costello bandwagon for next year already!! Hope he balls out in the bowl game. #FreeCostello

I Think It Is A Real Honor For Bryce
To have overtaken the early Heisman views on other running backs and to ultimately finish 2nd in the vote – substantially ahead of Lamar Jackson. The Heisman will feed Baker Mayfield’s ego in a way that it never would for Bryce – so perhaps the most deserving player got it after all. Actually, no issue with Mayfield as a player – he had a great year. Nevertheless, Bryce’s performances both before and after injury are very memorable (for different reasons).
We’re proud of you Bryce and welcome to the all-time Stanford Heisman Runner Up Team!
I think Bryce is serious about med school and, as a true Junior, may well return to the Farm next year. But I would totally understand it if he declares and goes to the NFL. We are fortunate as Stanford fans to have players that we can genuinely be proud of as both human beings and outstanding academic talents. This is the way college football should be.

Rumors are intensifying
that Tavita Pritchard is Shaw’s choice for the OC position. That would be a huge mistake. Pritchard would bring no fresh thinking, no experience outside Stanford, no successful track record as an OC. In essence, this would be a continuation of Shaw’s role as acting OC.

Yea saw the si article on tavita
I hope tavita was coaching qbs the basics like how to look off receivers and not stare them down. Guess our next best hope is to find an good OL coach to continue he power running game.

This Is Unthinkable
Pritchard, nice Stanford guy and all, could not get a job as a QB coach at a top 25 football school – no less be considered for an offensive coordinator position. On top of that, our QB transitions/development have been one of the weaker aspects of our coaching.
When and where we need the most help, Shaw goes armadillo on us and promotes Tavita. I guess this just means that Shaw will continue to be the de factor offensive coordinator.
Hubris and obduration rule!

Yes, that was my take
Shaw remains acting OC, promotes a position coach to administrate the group and needs to find an OL coach to fill the gap left behind by Bloomgren. This seems so incestuous. I hope to be proven wrong, but this appears to be a "promote the family" decision that is lacking all consideration of potential outside candidates with far more experience and football acumen.

For A Team That Has Been One Stupid Loss
…..away from contending for the national championship several times, this is the kind of decision that cements our ceiling. What does this say about the aspirations of Stanford football under David Shaw? Or more aptly, what Shaw is willing (or not willing) to give up to really go for the gold.
At the end of the day, Shaw is gonna Shaw…………………and we don’t get to see how Tavita performs in practice – or whatever justification is put forth in the face of reality.

Truly depressing to see us continue to plod in mediocrity
We will continue to see the use of the big fat playbook and maddening runs up the middle. If that OL coaching blows up then that is truly the end of the shaw ball and our stay atop the pac-12.
