The big news of the weekend is that the Stanford men's basketball team, which had been off to a poor start to the Pac-12 season, finally closed out a game with panache and beat Cal, 69-59, at Maples Pavilion.
SI.com's Andy Staples released his way-too-early Top 25 for 2013, and Stanford football is sitting pretty with the number three ranking, right behind Alabama and Texas A&M. Oregon checks in with the No. 4 ranking, and UCLA snags the No. 24 ranking.
On the other side of the coin, SI.com's Stewart Mandel evaluated the teams that were hit the hardest by early entries to the NFL, and Stanford is among them. We all know things could have been much worse, but losing Zach Ertz and Levine Toilolo and Terrence Brown does cause some issues.
It's getting close to national signing day, so let's check in with the Rivals 250 recruit rankings. So far, Stanford has commitments from three of the nation's top 250 players: LB Peter Kalambayi, QB Ryan Burns and WR Francis Owusu. Check out the Cardinal's entire commitment list right here.
The San Jose Earthquakes selected Stanford soccer player Adam Jahn with the 15th pick in the MLS' supplemental draft.
