On a quiet recruiting week, Stanford made more noise and added its 6th recruit of the 2016 class, snagging 3-star defensive back Malik Antoine. Antoine is a Baton Rouge, LA native that the Cardinal snagged right out of SEC territory.

Antoine had offers from Vanderbilt, Oklahoma State, TCU and Cal, but turned them down to commit to the Card. Before Antoine committed he stated he wanted, "A great academic school that excels as one of the top schools in the nation". It is safe to say Antoine picked the right place for that. Antoine still has all of his official visits so look for him to be active throughout his senior season.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound junior is a perfect fit for the Cardinal defense because of his strength and his ability to play zone. Antoine is a strong corner and is emphasizes his strength at the line of scrimmage. The use of his hands derails wideouts from their routes and then in turn disrupts the timing of the play. Another aspect of Antoine’s game that fits in with the Stanford D is his "center field" type of play. He sits back in his zone and always finds the ball. I can see him being switched to a SS at any time during his career because he has the natural ball instincts and because he is slow (runs an unofficial 4.68) for his position.

As the summer recruiting frenzy swiftly approaches, be on the lookout for Stanford’s class to continue to grow quickly. The Cardinal are quietly putting together a top 20 class and will build on that within the coming months.
