Card Class 17 Update: The playoffs approach for the next group of Cardinal commits

Which commits still have a chance of taking home a state title?

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

It rained league titles, region titles, division titles and, in some cases, playoff spots for a large of the Stanford commits in the final week of the regular season.

2017 Commits

QB Davis Mills - Greater Atlanta Christian School (Norcross, Ga.)

The Stanford commit capped GAC's regular season with a nearly flawless finale. The Spartans took down Dawson County HS, 42-7, behind Mills' 327 yards and five touchdowns to capture the Region 7-AAA championship. The only blemish in the season-ending win? He threw his first interception of the season.

TE/DE Colby Parkinson - Oaks Christian HS (Westlake Village, Calif.)

Colby snagged four receptions for 80 yards and tallied 3 tackles in Oaks Christian's conquest of archrival Westlake HS in dominating fashion, 52-14. The victory was a nice momentum building win as the Lions clinched the CIF Marmonte League title at 8-1 and a perfect league record.

WR Osiris St. Brown - Mater Dei HS (Anaheim, Calif.)

Osiris caught eight passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns in the Monarchs' statement 59-7 win over JSerra Catholic HS. Mater Dei has crushed opponents all season, and should continue to do so in Division I of the CIF Southern Section Playoff bracket.

DB Stuart Head - Etowah HS (Woodstock, GA)

With Etowah blanking Lassiter HS, 41-0, on Friday night, the Eagles secured the final playoff berth in Region 4AAAAAAA (awarded through tiebreakers). Head helped steady the Eagle defense, contributing one of the four Etowah interceptions in a statement win headed into the playoffs.

RB Sione Heimuli-Lund - Brighton HS (Salt Lake City, UT)

Lund did not play as Brighton finished its season two weeks ago, but did become the second member of this 2017 class to publicly announce his admittance to Stanford on Saturday night after the victory over Oregon State.

TE Tucker Fisk - Davis Senior HS (Davis, Calif.)

Fisk did not appear on the offensive side of the stat sheet, but was prevalent in his linebacker spot, registering seven tackles as the defense stood up the Monterey Trail HS offense on a two-point conversion in a tight 28-27 victory. With the win, the Blue Devils clinched just its third playoff appearance in 17 years.

OL/DL Drew Dalman - Palma HS (Salinas, Calif.)

The Chieftains outlasted Hollister-San Benito HS, a high-powered, fast-paced team which on Friday was held well below their season average in offensive output, clinching the Monterey Bay League Gabilan Divison championship. Dalman echoed the Stanford hashtag #partyinthebackfield the entirety of Friday wreaking havoc on the Haybalers rushing attack (season low 106 yards on the ground). Palma now rides momentum from a hard-fought 14-6 defensive struggle into the playoffs

2018 Commits

QB Jack West - Saraland HS (Saraland, AL)

Having locked up a playoff berth in the final week of their season last week, Saraland began its postseason run against Park Crossing HS. Unfortunately, the Spartans ran up against a potent scoring attack from the Thunderbirds, ending Saraland's championship hopes earlier than expected. West threw for a measly 41 yards in the 45-14 loss.

This week, I've added a new wrinkle to these posts I have also taken the liberty of charting each commit's playoff matchup. This will be a recurring feature in these posts until all postseason play has concluded.
