Notre Dame
“If the Irish keep improving as they have, there may not be a team in the country who could beat them in late November.”
I’m growing tired of the hyperbole around Notre Dame. Yes they are improved but they are hardly anywhere near the best the team in the country

That seemed a little over the top to me, too.
So they hung 38 points on Purdue and 59 points on Air Force…

USC
As odd as it sounds, the USC-ND game next weekend may actually tell us a lot about both Notre Dame and USC. As much as it pains me to say it, I’d rather USC win that game. If the Trojans pull out a win in South Bend, I’d say it would give Stanford much more confidence heading into late November. Also, if SC wins, they head into the game against Stanford with a win as opposed to a loss with the prospect of losing two in a row to two highly disliked teams.
If Notre Dame wins, well then everyone just has to cross their fingers and hope for the best.

Given that they're not playing for much...
I could see a loss to ND breaking the Trojans, but I could see it firing them up too.
We have to root for Oregon against ASU, right? Even if the Ducks lost, they’d control their own destiny in the North.

In any case,
Assuming the Sun Devils, Ducks, and Cardinal don’t lose another conference game (except those between them), ASU hosts the championship game if they win Saturday and Stanford loses against Oregon. Oregon hosts if they win against both Stanford and ASU. Stanford hosts if they win against Oregon.
So while the Ducks control their own destiny in the North, they have to win two games in order to host the conference championship while Stanford only needs to win one and ASU needs to win one and hope another loses.

i agree RedOscar. I am watching both those games intently for what it may imply about our matchup against both teams

If somehow we made it through undefeated ...
And if Wisconsin did too, I couldn’t get too upset about being in the Rose Bowl instead of the national championship game. There would be a fair argument that it WAS the national championship game. After watching the second half of Cal/Oregon, it’s pretty scary to get through that game.

Yes Oregon will be tough….but our defense I think is much better than the weenies
by dblecard on Oct 13, 2025 3:16 PM PDT up reply actions
Not to mention
the Cardinal OFFENSE is better than Cal’s (at least at the QB position…and TE…and OL…and RB…and so forth), so presumably the Dux will have fewer opportunities to score against Stanford than they did against Cal simply because they won’t be getting the ball back as often…one hopes.

Yup
Cal’s QB doesn’t understand his role. Apparently he thinks a pass completed to his opponent is just as good as one to a teammate.
Seems like USC’s defense has more catches in this one than Robert Woods does.

We still owe them one for the last Rose Bowl...

The difference there?
We were happy just to make it to a bowl.

On a hoops note
Nice to see Dawkins finally reel in a promising local/in-state prospect.
The teams of the glory years always seemed to have some regional talent: Lichti, Madsen, Jacobsen, Collins (x2), Lopez (x2), et al.
by Cardinal&Orange; on Oct 13, 2025 5:02 PM PDT reply actions
Oh, yeah
I forgot that Anthony Brown, maybe the best player on this year’s team, is a SoCal guy. So it’s more like bolstering the regional contingent.

The indignation in the comments section of Blanchat's column is hilarious
Poor Clemson fans, the Rodney Dangerfields of college football this year apparently.
