OLB Peter Kalambayi Commits to Stanford
As reported by Rivals' Andy Drukarev, the Cardinal received a commitment today from Butler (Matthews, N.C.) four-star linebacker Peter Kalambayi.
Kalambayi, who had offers from more than 20 schools and was reportedly high on Clemson, committed to Stanford during an unofficial visit to the Farm and brings the Cardinal's already impressive list of 2013 commitments to five. In addition to wide receiver Francis Owusu, who committed earlier this week, Stanford has received solid verbals from quarterback Ryan Burns and linebackers Isaac Savaiinaea and Doug Randolph. Three of the Cardinal's first five commits are from the ACC country, so perhaps those trips to Wake Forest and Duke are paying off.
Stanford, which is already stacked at linebacker, looks to be reloading at the position much as David Shaw and the coaching staff did with an incredible haul of top-rated offensive linemen this year. Among the recruits in the class of 2013, Rivals.com ranks Kalmbayi and Randolph the No. 11 and No. 12 outside linebackers, respectively, and Savaiinaea the No. 7 inside linebacker.

Sorry East Coasters: some Pac-12 football (and basketball?) games may only be carried regionally
Yesterday the Pac-12 released the schedule for the first four/five weekends of the football season with kickoff times. Stanford fans will be happy to note that all four of their first four games will be aired live on television, with the USC game airing on the Fox Network (as in the big channel Fox) at 4:30PM PST. The Notre Dame game, since it is happening in South Bend this year, will be aired on NBC at 12:30PM PST on October 13th.
The other big change is that Stanford now plays San Jose State on Friday, August 31 at 7PM. This will mark the first time that the stadium has been used for a Friday night football game (2008 featured a Thursday night Oregon State opener).
Stanford's schedule for its first four games is as follows:
vs. San Jose State -- Friday, August 31, 7PM PST, Pac-12 Network
vs. Duke -- Saturday, September 8, 7:30PM PST, Pac-12 Network
vs. USC -- Saturday, September 15, 4:30PM PST, Fox
@ Washington -- Thursday, September 27, 6PM PST, ESPN
While it's nice to know that all of these games will be televised, the devil is in the details, and it's not good news for those of you outside of the Bay Area.

Kyle Peterson Chats Stanford Baseball, FSU Crowd, MLB Draft and More
Former Stanford pitcher and current ESPN college baseball analyst Kyle Peterson, who will call this weekend's UCLA-TCU Super Regional, was kind enough to take some time out of his busy schedule to chat about the Cardinal, the Tallahassee Super Regional and more. Peterson hasn't seen Stanford in person this season, but he keeps tabs on his alma mater and saw a lot of this year's team at the 2011 Chapel Hill Super Regional.
On the MLB Draft:
"I don’t think anything would’ve surprised me about this year’s draft. With the new CBA in place, you didn’t know how it was going to work. There’s an ego that goes with being picked No. 1, but there’s also an economic reality. Houston clearly had a deal already in place with (Carlos) Correa. It’s pretty apparent now that teams are going to try to manipulate the system as best they can. ... When you get down to it, and depending on who you talked to, you’re splitting hairs between Appel, (Kevin) Gausman and (Kyle) Zimmer. All three have a chance to be good depending on injuries and how well they adjust to the pro game."
