College Football Rankings: Stanford creeps up to #7 in AP and Coaches Polls after impressive win in Colorado

They may not be the rankings that matter most, but Stanford continues to impress.

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

After an impressive showing against Colorado and key losses around the country this weekend, Stanford is up a few spots up to #7 in the latest AP and Coaches poll.

Of the 1 loss teams in the Top 10, Stanford is ranked only behind Alabama and Notre Dame, which fairs well for them as the season winds down as both teams still have some tests on their remaining schedule.

Fortunately for Stanford, Notre Dame's biggest test comes on November 28, when they hit the road to take on (you guessed it) the Stanford Cardinal. That game could have huge playoff implications, seeing as though Notre Dame is currently ahead of Stanford in both polls and the playoff rankings.

Stanford, however, needs to focus on the two Pac-12 teams remaining on their schedule: rivals Oregon and Cal. Both teams are not playing their best football, but should not be overlooked nonetheless.

The good news for Stanford is that all of their remaining 3 games while difficult are all at home, where they are a perfect 4-0 this season.

Stanford will take on the Ducks this Saturday at 4:30 PM PT on FOX as they continue their climb towards a spot in the College Football Playoff.
