Stanford WBB v Cal. What I saw, from where I sat.

Rout. Thrash. Destroy. Pick your favorite descriptor. Not a lot to say about a beat down such as this. I thought the game in general was overly physical. Unnecessarily so. And how do you play at this level without a mouth guard? As a head coach I would make it mandatory. Yes, a Cal player took an elbow and lost a tooth. Here are some random thoughts and observations:

Two seasons ago Alana went up for the opening tipoff and pushed the ball forward, where Brittany ran onto the path of the ball and took it in for an easy layup. The rout was on. Fran pushed the opening tipoff to Lexie who took the ball in for an easy layup and missed. The rout was on. Must have been the full moon.

The ball security was much better in this game with very few turnovers from the main players.

Ashten's PPM has fans asking why she doesn't play more. I still believe she is learning how to play team defense.

Matchups. There were several instances when switching created huge advantages for Stanford that went unused. Specifically Haley had a defender guarding her that was 5-6 inches shorter. Have to recognize those situations when they happen and get the ball to the right person.

The entire 4th period was garbage time. Which fine because I spent my time watching the OSU@AU game on the cell phone of the fans in front of me. Oregon and OSU lose at ASU over the weekend. Gotta love the PAC-12.
