Inactives: Mikaela and DiJonai were on the bench but Maya was not in attendance. The freshmen are playing well but a deep run in March will require a healthy and active DiJonai. There was not much flow to this game as Tara spread the minutes in a game that was never really in doubt. Here are some random thoughts and observations:
Fran is an amazing athlete but she needs to figure out how to play effectively without fouling. You can't help the team from the bench. She played for two minutes in the first half, accumulating three points and two fouls.
With so many freshmen minutes being played there will be turnovers. But there where too many of the unforced variety in this game.
Estella came on in the second period and played well in defending Hristova. Nice to see her receive some minutes.
Anna brings the defensive intensity for this team.
This was Nadia's game. Her fitness level and shot are back. On the one year anniversary of her ACL injury she had a great overall game, scoring, rebounding and terrific defense.
Before the start of the second half, as the players were shooting, DiJonai took Fran aside and showed her some technique adjustments for playing defense. Upperclassman leadership on display. Fun to watch.
Speaking of leading by example. Ki telegraphed a pass that was pickoff by Hristova, who went up court for the layup. Ki didn't quit on the play, hustled back and blocked the layup.
Gotta cut down on the unforced turnovers. Every possession is important.
