Stanford Men Fall in Eugene; No. 4 Stanford Women Blast Ducks

Johnny Dawkins really could've used Taylor Greenfield and Bonnie Samuelson tonight. While the Stanford freshmen were raining 3-pointers in the No. 4 Stanford women's basketball team's 93-70 win over Oregon at Maples Pavilion, Dawkins' squad was struggling through a cold shooting night from beyond the arc and a poor defensive showing in a 78-67 loss to the Ducks in Eugene.

"Defensively, we weren't the team that I've coached up to this point," Dawkins said during his postgame radio interview with John Platz and Drew Shiller. "That's something we've hung our hat on. This was our worst defensive effort of the season."

Devoe Joseph scored a game-high 30 points, including five 3-pointers, for the Ducks (11-4, 2-1 Pac-12). Stanford (12-3, 2-1) shot only 8-for-25 from 3-point range. Josh Owens led the Cardinal with 19 points, but only two of those came after halftime.

Oregon shot 48% from the field, outrebounded Stanford 29-24, and made 11 more free throws (20) than Stanford attempted. The Cardinal was only 5-for-9 from the free throw line. Freshman point guard Chasson Randle didn't get to the charity stripe and that's a problem, especially considering he shot only 3-for-14 from the field.

Greenfield and Samuelson combined to shoot 11-for-21 from beyond the arc for the women. Nneka Ogwumike had 32 points, 15 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Look for C&R's full report from Maples later tonight or tomorrow morning.
