Several weeks ago the University of Michigan hired Jim Harbaugh to be their next head football coach. Shortly thereafter Harbaugh reportedly attempted to hire Stanford's strength and conditioning Coach Shannon Turley. Turley turned down the offer to work for his old boss in order to stay on the Farm.
Michigan was understandably unable to haul in a huge recruiting class for 2015 while the Cardinal brought in a class loaded with talent in the defensive backfield. Then rumors broke that Wayne Lyons was considering transferring to Michigan. Soon after the transfer rumors began, it was announced that Wayne Lyons mother was hired by the Michigan athletic department.
Now it appears as though the rumors of Lyons' transfer were more than just rumors.
According to Chris Balas of Rivals, Lyons is preparing to transfer to Michigan. Unfortunately the full article is behind a pay wall but Mgoblog.com reposted the relevant quote from the Rivals article:
Lyons confirmed his plans to transfer to Michigan.
"Midterms have my attention, but yes, there is some truth to the rumors," Lyons said via text Feb. 9, adding he planned to report June after graduation. "I'm looking into taking a visit before then."
While it certainly appears as though Lyons will be transferring, we still have not heard any official confirmation from Wayne Lyons, nor either of the schools. As always, we will be keeping an eye on this this story and update you when we get confirmation.

Too bad about Lyons
He’s a talented player, and I was looking forward to seeing him play this year. Also, we could use the veteran leadership in the defensive backfield with Alex Carter and Jordan Richards leaving. Regardless, I wish him the best at Michigan (so long as we don’t end up meeting in a bowl game).
Quick correction: Lance Anderson is the defensive coordinator (aka Willie Shaw Director of Defense), not the strength and conditioning coach. That’s Shannon Turley (aka Kissick Family Director of Football Sports Performance). Apparently, Harbaugh tried to hire both of them, but they decided to stay.

I get those two confused all the time
I’ll correct.
Thank you for pointing it out.

Im not too shook up
I mentioned this elsewhere, but honestly I’m not too bummed out about this. He had a really frustrating knack of getting completely lost in coverage and it seemed to really come out in clutch situations. Most people will point to the Notre Dame this last year but it happened frequently the year before as well, most notably in the Rose Bowl loss. He was such a highly touted recruited but he never lived up to his billing; just way to inconsistent when it mattered.
I do think randalthor has a decent point about the leadership angle, however. Being a young DB is admittedly tough by my hope is that Reid, Buncom or some of the talent we landed this year and get their feet wet early and grow up quick.
