Commemorative T-Shirts? C'mon, Man!
Stanford students' decision to rush the field after Saturday's 37-35 win over USC was a divisive one. Some fans thought it was justified, given that the Cardinal hadn't defeated the Trojans at home in 10 years. Others, including Stanford Daily columnist Daniel Bohm, thought it was preposterous. And many didn't care.
Can we all agree that a T-shirt commemorating the "Victory Over USC" is more than a little ridiculous? To borrow a phrase from one of the only segments I actually enjoy on ESPN's Monday Night Countdown, C'MON, MAN!

i agree
just silly. last year’s win would have been a good one for a t-shirt though (I’m pretty sure there was one for ’07, not sure about ’09)

Here’s the 2007 shirt and an unofficial Zazzle offering from ’09.

Hate T-Shirts That Mention Other Schools
The worst ones are the ones that attack a particular school specifically. It just screams inferiority complex (at least in my opinion). Any time you’re focused more on tearing another team down rather than propping your team up, you’re basically saying, “This team isn’t REALLY better than my team…” I’ve been to the last several TX-OU games, and, without fail, whichever team is the underdog or the one who has lost most recently is, without fail, the team that is more vocal about yelling that the other team “sucks.” I’ve even seen OU fans with red hats with a white upside-down longhorn. I mean…c’mon. Not only is that confusing, but it doesn’t even mention what school you support! Then there’s the Aggies…they make more shirts about UT than anybody (see above re: inferiority complex).
And a t-shirt designed for one game that you won in the past? Ridiculous. Act like you’ve done it before (which we actually have with USC). And don’t focus so much on one win…still have a number of huge games left.

Rule of Tree
I agree that the shirts are kind of silly. At some point, you have to expect to win those games. I will say though that I really want a hat with the three trees from the Rule of Tree logo.

As an outsider and a member of your mortal enemies, I figure I could offer a bit of a different perspective: Rushing the field was lame (you guys were 10 point faves and ranked, after all), but a Tee shirt is just pathetic. Actually, it almost seems like a prank cooked up by some Cal fans in order to poke fun at your fans for their antics.
Trust me, I have watched Cal fans more than once rush the field with little cause. The embarrassment at seeing that was tough, but if I then saw some Cal fans wearing a shirt that celebrated that embarrassment, it would have been too much.
Hopefully the people in charge of this sort of thing will realize that, while perhaps generating some revenue, this idea is one that will only bring derision and smirks. It will basically confirm the idea that your fans simply aren’t ready for success.
Besides, since when does Stanford need to generate revenue?

it is ridiculous...
but this just adds to my profound sadness that I lost my “Biggest Upset Ever” t-shirt a year back. I would still be rocking that one if I had it.

These "commemorative" T shirts are becoming more and more common
I believe it’s a generic template, prepared before the game’s even been played, and all that’s left is for the scores to be filled in. With as cheap and easy as it is to make custom T shirts these days there’s little reason for the schools not to try to squeeze out a couple bucks.
Don't Panic.

Can’t wait to get my “We Covered the Spread Against Wazzu!” shirt when I’m out there for Homecoming.

Considering the Stanford-WSU spread should be around 60 that would be impressive in its own right
Don't Panic.

Stanford students need to become more football-friendly and know when and when not to rush the football field.
