The lead changed hands four times and was tied twice beginning in the fourth quarter, with Stanford prevailing in overtime, 36-30, on a 25-yard touchdown pass from Randy Fasani to a wide open Casey Moore. The Cardinal, which won its sixth consecutive Big Game, converted two blocked punts into 10 points and held a 16-13 lead after three quarters. Joe Igber rushed for two touchdowns in defeat for the Bears.
