2011 NCAA Tournament: Sweet 16 Open Thread

So, uh, how's your bracket? The NCAA tournament resumes tonight with four Sweet 16 games. Use this thread to discuss all of the action.

(3) Connecticut vs. (2) San Diego State – 4:15 p.m. PST, CBS

UConn is 2-12 all-time in NCAA tournament "road games."

Why you should root for the Huskies: You feel bad for UConn, whose athletic department lost $1.8 million when the football team played in the Fiesta Bowl and whose women's basketball team will not win the title this year.

Why you should root for the Aztecs: It’s a West Coast thing.

Star-divide

(3) BYU vs. (2) Florida – 4:27 p.m. PST, TBS

Is attacking Jimmer Fredette on defense the key to slowing BYU’s scoring machine?

Why you should root for the Cougars: Jimmer, whose Mormon upbringing evokes Mark Madsen. Ah, the good old days.

Why you should root for the Gators: Jimmer. Seriously, this is getting ridiculous.

(5) Arizona vs. (1) Duke – 6:45 p.m. PST, CBS

Arizona’s guards must hold their own against Duke’s Nolan Smith and Kyrie Irving if the Wildcats are to pull the upset.

Why you should root for the Wildcats: Pac-10 pride, baby.

Why you should root for the Blue Devils: You picked Duke in your brackets. You have no soul.

(8) Butler vs. (4) Wisconsin – 6:57 p.m. PST, TBS

Wisconsin has a chance to change its recent postseason reputation against Butler, which knocked off No. 1 Pitt last Saturday.

Why you should root for the Bulldogs: It would be good for next year’s game notes. "Stanford played nine games against teams that qualified for the NCAA tournament last season, including national champion Butler." (It’s probably best to leave out the fact that the Cardinal went 1-8 in those games and lost at Hinkle Fieldhouse by more than 30 points.)

Why you should root for the Badgers: They scored 33 points in a Big Ten tournament loss to Penn State. Stanford fans can relate.

You picked Duke in your brackets. You have no soul.

Too easy. Not terribly original, but full credit anyway.

Also, it looks like it’s BYE to BYU. Jimmermania over, mercifully.

Stanford played AZ better than Duke did

The Cardinal owns the future of college hoops…or something.
