Stanford to Continue Notre Dame Football Series Until 2019
Athletic Director Bob Bowlsby announced today that Stanford and Notre Dame have agreed to continue their annual football series for the next eight years until 2019. Both teams will continue their home-and-home games for alternating years under the agreement. Stanford will travel to South Bend in the first half of the season in even years while Notre Dame will return to Stanford in odd years during the month of November. This scheduling keeps Notre Dame's recruiting philosophy of playing at least once a season in California with USC hosting the Fighting Irish in years that the Cardinal do not.
The annual series is relatively new in terms of the history of the two teams. While Stanford and Notre Dame first met in the 1925 Rose Bowl, both teams met only three times again until 1988. Since then, the two teams have played 21 of the 23 seasons that have followed and annually since 1995.
Notre Dame currently holds a 17-8 series advantage over the Cardinal. Both teams will meet again November 26th at Stanford Stadium.

Even if it complicates the Stanford football schedule...
I’m glad that we’re continuing the series with the Irish. I think the facts that we’ve been winning games in the series recently and that there’s a trophy for this game will (hopefully) transform Stanford-ND into a worthy rivalry. In my opinion, having “more” rivals will bring our fans out.
