Ignored by the mothership

Why isn’t there a link to Rule of Tree from the SBNation Stanford football preview? Kinda defeats the whole purpose of SBNation.

Verhoeven & hoops recruiting

While it’s a sports truism to say Stanford must recruit (inter)nationally, it’s clear the basketball team would do well to get their hooks into more local and regional talent.

The good teams of the recent past nearly always had exceptional local/CA players. A small list off the top of my head:

Lopez (x2)
Collins (x2)
Lichti
Madsen
Childress
Jacobsen

Maybe Anthony Brown will eventually rise to that level. One can hope.

This Verhoeven kids sounds like he’s a monster rebounder, something Stanford badly needs. Nobody’s done much on the boards since that Fields guy graduated…come to think of it, he was from CA too.

I’d say Dwight Powell has the potential to be a great rebounder, given his size and how aggressive he was under the basket this season. Especially in Pac-10 play.

And especially if

he can cut down on the fouls. Nobody rebounds well from the bench.
