You've got to feel good about the 9 seed

Given what we thought we would be working with only a few short months ago right before the season started. I definitely thought it would be another rebuilding year, but I’m pleasantly surprised at this outcome. Hope we can keep the momentum going.

Yeah... although the 8/9 is a mixed blessing...

because if you manage to win that first game, you face the #1 seed in the second round. Slipping to the 10/11 seed mind (or up to the 6/7 seed) might be better for their chances to get deeper into the tournament…

Yeah, but moving up

Almost basically requires going undefeated or only a single loss, given the “strength” of the Pac-12 this year. Moving down is more likely, but even then, a lower seed might end up resulting in a matchup against one of the Big Ten schools, which has the potential to be an ugly game as well.

True...

plus, all of this is predicated on actually making the tournament in the first place (not a guarantee given the poor rep of the Pac-12 this year). Given the sad state of the program the last few years, I guess we should just be happy if the team makes it in the first place.

Slim margin for error

Jerry Palm didn’t even have Stanford in his bracket last week, so maybe this team is closer to the bubble than we think. Stanford’s RPI is up to 67, but the Cardinal’s weak SOS will probably prevent it from moving up a whole lot higher. The Cal games will take on a little extra meaning this year.

Can we replay the last five minutes of the Syracuse game?

And remember to play defense and not turn the ball over lake a sixth grade team? That might help our RPI.

Probably more than taking 0-16 UC Davis off our schedule.

I wish there were a more detailed account of the recruit visit from the weekend

Specifically, did we move the needle on Jameis Winston, or is he still a pipe dream?

re: Winston

No one knows—no one bothered to interview him.

Other interviews were pretty positive, though (obviously) no one was moved to commit right then and there. To be honest, I didn’t expect any commits necessarily—when you’re dealing with big time recruits, they tend to take their time. And typically you get fewer than you might expect.
