It's unfortunate
Stanford is still playing at this time of the year, but a very significant amount of the crowd was pro-Nevada. Either the locals have little faith in the team (and really, they are fully justified after the past few seasons), or people just didn’t find an NIT quarterfinal game worth paying $15 for. Nearly the entire upper bowl was empty last night.
That said, this deep push to MSG has caused me to look favorably on Dawkins. He’s had tremendous difficulty in conference play while at Stanford, but his non-conference performance, especially this season, has been exceptional. Is it enough to warrant another season on the Farm? I’m now leaning toward yes, but then the Merc story says this and I wonder if it would be a terrible thing:
The Chicago Tribune reported that Dawkins is among a handful of potential candidates being considered for the vacant Illinois job.
