1995 Big Game Program: Willingham, Stanford Take Back the Axe

1995_bg_cover_medium

Stanford defeated Cal 29-24 in Tyrone Willingham's first Big Game. "We came here today with three objectives," Willingham said. "First, to win the game. Second, to get the Axe back. And third, to go bowling." Stanford did all three, losing to East Carolina in the Liberty Bowl. Mike Mitchell finished with 146 yards on 26 carries for the Cardinal. A late fumble by Cal tight end Tony Gonzalez helped seal the Bears' fate.
