The Unofficial Andrew Luck Cut-Out Beard

I was going to post about Pac-12 Media Day, but I don't have much more to add. The event featured a dramatic opening video, Chip Kelly wouldn't--fine, couldn't--talk about Willie Lyles, and Jeff Tedford said he'll be more involved in the Cal offense this season. If you missed David Shaw and Andrew Luck's press conference, you can watch it here. You should also check out the previously linked reports at The Daily Axe and the Pac-12 Blog

The real story of the day, though, was Andrew Luck's beard. No, really. See: here, here, here, here, and here. I mean, we knew the Heisman candidate was a little shaggy at the Manning Passing Academy, but that thing is now officially OUT. OF. CONTROL.

Here's what Luck had to say about it:

"I haven't thought past tomorrow about what to do with it. I'm hesitant to call it a beard. I don't think it's quite there yet."

Oh, it's there. And you shouldn't do anything with it, Andrew. Keep growing that thing. Hide the shaving cream, Griff!

Hit the jump to download your unofficial Andrew Luck "Hirsute of Victory" Cut-Out Beard. (It's my first project in Illustrator, so it's a bit rough. I guess that's appropriate in this case.)

The Beard

I’m really hoping he keeps it. Just imagine how many students will be wearing beards to the games. Were there four or five Marecic Maniacs (was that what they called themselves?) last season? I’d love to see dozens of bearded frat boys in the front row this season.

If I could, I would

It might take me a few years to grow a beard like Luck’s. I could have some amazing stubble by Nov. 12, though.

Oh my...

The Marecic Mane-iacs were pretty cool, I will admit that, and they ended up getting a lot of air time on television, news, and the scoreboards because they sat on the other side of the band opposite the student section, making them easy to spot.

I fear, though (no pun intended), that this beard thing will draw comparisons to he-who-shall-not-be-named up in SF and all his crazy antics. I’m betting somebody tells him to cut it before SJSU.

First of all, after deciding to come back, I think Andrew Luck pretty much as a free pass on anything he wants to do. Second, if there was a time when anyone would ask him to shave it, it would’ve been before this media blitz.

The Beard

It really does allow for the ideal slogan for the 2011 Stanford Football team -

Stanford Football: So Easy A Caveman Could Do It!

"Thanks. Go Bears!" - Ernest Owusu: the next great Cal DE

It's a start

I don’t believe that Epic Beard Man is yet envious.

That thing looks like a cowcatcher on the front of a locomotive...

Still, I think the band should be wearing this cutout to every game.

"It’s great with these group of guys. There is no panic in them." --Chip Kelly, Clearly NOT talking about members of ATQ.
