1950 Big Game Program: Stanford Ties Unbeaten Cal
Stanford managed a 7-7 tie with the unbeaten and heavily favored Bears, and the Indians very nearly pulled off a shocking win. Stanford tied the game early in the fourth quarter on a Gary Kerkorian touchdown pass and appeared to take the lead on another Kerkorian TD strike, but receiver Bob White was called for offensive pass interference. In the final minutes of the game, a 60-plus yard pass from left end Bill McColl went off Bob Bryan's fingertips at the Cal 9-yard line. It would have been a sure touchdown. Cal went on to the Rose Bowl, where it lost to Michigan.

It’s amazing the the degree to which the Indian became a caricature between the 1940’s and 1950. Even as recently as 1946, the Indian seemed noble and the depiction was respectful. The Indian depicted here is one step away from being Cleveland Indians offensive.
