Led by first-year head coach Chuck Taylor, who starred on Stanford's last Rose Bowl team in 1941, the Indians rolled into Big Game fresh off a pasting of Oregon State that improved their record to 9-0. But the 1951 season didn't go to 11, or even 10 for that matter. Cal dealt Stanford its first loss, 20-7, in Big Game, and the Indians would go on to lose to Illinois in the Rose Bowl, 40-7.
