1941 Big Game Program: The Cover Was Better Than the Game
Frankie Albert was named an All-American for the second consecutive year, but Stanford couldn't replicate its success from 1940. The Indians opened the year 2-0 before being upset by Oregon State. Stanford ended the season with back-to-back losses to Washington State and Cal (16-0) to finish 6-3.
The cover of the 1941 program, which celebrates Stanford's 50th year, is certainly one of the more interesting to date. A few inside pages after the jump...

Hey, Scott, that was a great game! Third biggest Cal upset in the history of the Big Game! (The Bears were 14-point underdogs. Only 1980 and 1986 were bigger Cal upsets.) But I actually find the cover to be quite odd. I get that it is supposed to be gold to celebrate Stanford’s golden anniversary, but it is so completely un-football-y.
