Stanford Opens Fall Practice
Stanford opened fall camp on the Farm Monday with lofty expectations and a few issues to watch.
While practice was closed to the public, I received a report that Andrew Luck could be heard across campus.
Reeeeeeeaaaaaaaaadddddy!
Jonathan Martin is ready for pads. After watching this video, I'm ready for September 3, but first-year head coach David Shaw says the Cardinal has some work to do.
ESPN the Magazine cover boy Andrew Luck, who said the first day of practice was "like Christmas," is ready to improve his completion rate by five percentage points, win the Pac-12 title, and be a better friend. Related to the last goal, Mark Purdy writes about Luck's relationship with his teammates, who occasionally "say mean stuff" to the Heisman hopeful.
Delano Howell is ready to hit some people and build upon last year's success. Chris Owusu and Levine Toilolo are ready to put last season's injuries behind them.
Everyone is ready for Day 2.

That ESPN the Magazine cover is unimpressive
The SI for Kids cover of Luck is better looking, and wasn’t taken on the practice field with the green tarped fence behind him…

That cover is nice. Makes me wish I still subscribed.

Any reports on how the line is coming along?
From what I saw in the spring game, it looked above average but showed potential.

The Line
John Reid wrote this piece about David DeCastro, who should be a rock alongside Jonathan Martin. The real question is how the three new starters adapt to the role, and we may not have a great sense of that until Stanford has a couple of games under its belt. I’m glad to hear the Tunnel Workers Union tradition is alive.
