Happy...but sad

I am overjoyed with the Trees' Big GameStanford Cardinal win, but I am fearful of being left out of the BCS in what may be the best Stanford football season that I will witness in my life. It is not just the small conferences who are getting screwed here. Because it's a down year for the ACC and Big East, 2 BCS slots are going to go to vastly inferior teams to the Trees. I cannot think of many scenarios where we will end up participating.

Nothing that can be done about that........

If the Cardinal take care of their own business then thats successful enough.

Vastly Inferior

Just by looking at it from an outsiders prospective, Stanford is a little overrated. Best win over USC ( who got killed last night ). Only other team an OK Arizona Team. The one real test was against Oregon and it was a good game but then Oregon established itself. I think that Stanford is just overrated. A very good team but not BCS worthy.

What a stupid troll!

So you’re the sort who says the SEC is the best and everyone else is vastly inferior. By what standard?

The SEC’s record for non-conference games this year is not impressive when you look at who you’ve played. You’ve beaten some of your second-rate neighbors. LSU beat West Virginia and North Carolina. Alabama beat Penn State.

Meanwhile Arizona was beating Iowa. UCLA was beating Texas. Cal blew out Colorado who beat Georgia.

Put all the performances together in an objective way and you get computer rankings like the one from Jeff Sagarin. His method has the Pac-10 as the best conference in the country with the SEC second. He has Oregon 1, Stanford 2, Auburn 5, Alabama 6, LSU 7.

You say you know better. Drop dead. You’re just a troll who thinks your ego matters to anyone else. Wherever your SEC teams end up, I hope you all lose 900-0. You deserve it. It won’t be that bad, of course, but the SEC is certainly not going to win national championships every year as trolls like you pretend they are.

I didnt say SEC is Vastly Overrated

First this isn’t about SEC vs PAC 10 + 2. This About Boise and TCU. The poster said “2 BCS slots are going to go to vastly inferior teams to the Trees” If you knew what the Sagarin rankings actually are you would know that he rates win differential the heaviest. So when Oregon was blowing out the little sisters of the poor 72-0 and 69-0 and the Cardinal by 21 that helps out ALOT.

Stanford three best games #1 Oregon , unranked USC and Arizona State . Auburn and Scam Newton have played # 5 LSU, # 12 Arkansas, # 25 Miss State , Playing # 9 Alabama Friday but Stanford had the harder schedule??? I believe that if Oregon and Auburn played, Oregon would win. Im not a SEC Homer im just saying that TCU and Boise State are not vastly inferior than Stanford. Just throwing out facts. Oh and the SEC has won the last four BCS Championship Games so i guess I do kind of expect for the conference to win….. BTW I am a Baylor Bear Fan and we are going BOWLING

The AP/Coaches' rankings aren't all that valid

playingwithinmyself referred you tot he Sagarin ratings, which are far more objective.

Plus, you left off Stanford’s wins against Arizona and the fact that its non-conference wins included teams like Notre Dame and Wake (as opposed to a complete non-conference slate against schools like San Jose State).

You can't read complete sentences!

No one said TCU and BSU are vastly inferior. Read that sentence again. It refers to the ACC and Big East champions. Personally I think our Lung Doc was engaging in hyperbole and whining about a tradition of taking even mediocre conference champions that has helped everyone, but it doesn’t justify some troll coming here to fix all of us who you pretend are so ignorant. You have no idea who any of us are. You can’t even read. You simply assume you know what you’re talking about, and you’re not going to let anyone tell you differently.

You’re not here to throw out facts. You’re here to be a troll. If Scott Allen weren’t such a nice guy, you’d be banned instantly. Drop dead.

If anything, Cal fans can empathize with this sentiment. See: 2005 Rose Bowl selection for more info.

I’ll admit that before the season really started I was skeptical about your team without Gerhart, but now there’s absolutely no doubt that you’re not only deserving of a BCS game, but absolutely one of the top 5 teams in the country.

Good luck against OSU and with the whole BCS nonsense.

Oh, and for playingwithmyself, this was a complimentary post, so no flames, okay?

I'm faking an injury right now! Or ... am I?

"flames" is not the right word if you don't want to be flamed

Do you really think I was so harsh on you, Oski? I didn’t even tell you to drop dead. I responded to you with what came to me, from where you started with your boast that by god, Cal will win the Axe back next year. Then you actually tried to insult me that my musings about God weren’t substantial? Wow, you really are a critical person, aren’t you?

Trolls are trolls, whether they go to a site claiming they only want to educate us with their own version of the facts, like the SEC/Baylor troll on this thread, or when they’re saying they only want to be friends, despite features that suggest something else. I can’t say I’ve ever seen a troll take it well when anyone responds to how reality isn’t exactly what the troll says it is, whether that’s “drop dead” harsh or not so much.

Yet it’s not that any troll is being treated badly. This is cyberspace. No bones are broken. Everyone’s consequences are limited, and even better it’s always fair to say that everyone involved got the consequences they deserve.

I like that. It’s part of why I’ll write what I feel like writing, not write if that’s what I feel like, and whenever someone like you comes along who needs to criticize what I write, it doesn’t change me, because that’s like every other troll who wants to play oneupsmanship games with me, even though you have no idea who I am.

You have no moral authority or practical authority over me. You have no basis to negotiate to get anyone here to do what you want. I’ll respond to you as it comes to me to do that. If you call me out, you’d have to do a very good job for me not to feel like responding. You didn’t do that here. Did you deliberately get my screen name wrong? I’ve said what I want to say about that.

So insult me again as you did before, if you want. It doesn’t mean anything from you. Draw on all that hatred for Stanford on display at California Golden Blogs if you want. You seem to fit right in there no matter how righteously you portray yourself here.

It’s strange how your hatred for Stanford is so much like the hatred SF has for LA that I first learned going to Stanford. My brother lived in LA at the time, so I saw the contrast constantly. SF hates LA in every way. LA doesn’t care. People in LA mostly think SF is a great city to visit, but there are a variety of opinions. There are also a variety of opinions about Cal among Stanford people. I don’t hate anything about Cal. There are scientific areas of Cal that I love.

But I hate trolls. It’s no so bad if you keep your juvenile oneupsmanship and delusions to your own sites, whether those are about politics, religion, sports, or who should be booted off Dancing with the Stars. But come to one of my sites with all the lies that go with being a troll, and I notice it. I don’t always have something to say, but when I do, I’ll say it. You don’t like it? That’s because you’re a troll. This is my community, not yours. Your criticisms of anything here aren’t informed.

Now I’m done. You can try again to claim that everything you do is just fine, and I’m crazy. That’s what trolls do. You can get your colleagues to come here and turn yet another thread into a colony of CGB. You can do whatever Scott Allen lets you do. I’m done until something comes up that makes me no longer done.
